Spacious and adventurous
A meandering structure forms the basis of the design of Parkzicht in Sliedrecht. Three urban spaces were created by linking two existing apartment complexes, fitting 74 assisted-living apartments, 30 psychogeriatric units, 12 apartments for people with multiple handicaps and 48 senior homes into a single programme. A highly homogeneous building because the building's structure, façade structure and interior all speak the same calm language, in which a spacious, adventurous entity has been designed. That is not evident at first glance. The building seems fairly ordinary, but reveals its spatial richness increasingly during its use.
The central space is the entrance plaza linking the park with the main entrance with a large pond. An arcade in the building's plinth forms the transition between the plaza and the building and leads the visitor to the entrance. The 4/5-storey building ends in a 13-storey tower, housing 48 homes. The tower holds a prominent position. Otherwise, material use is restrained and balanced. The façade consists of masonry with a strong relief and aluminium window frames. The interior of the passage is shaped by lightly painted concrete and white surfaces. The coloured tile floor and wooden door frames and railings finish it off and add the perfect warm touch.
